Today was a very informative day. We learned about Proposition 8 at church today. Our church usually doesn't get involved in political issues but they are encouraging us, as members, to support this proposition. Proposition 8 is the California Marriage Protection Amendment. It places into the California Constitution the same language that voters already passed by 61% of the vote in 2000. This is necessary to overturn a recent California Supreme Court decision that overturned Proposition 22.
The entire text of Proposition 8 is as follows:
"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California."
Kurt and I also attended a meeting tonight and learned more about what we can do to help. We have been asked to "do all we can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of our means and our time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman." We feel strongly about this proposition and plan to help distribute literature and talk to our neighbors about this important issue this week.

Tami, thanks for posting this. It reminded me that I needed to do the same.
