This morning we slept in since Tara's flight came in so late last night. Then we took Metro into DC.
We spent the afternoon at The US Holocaust Memorial Museum. No photography is allowed inside, so we got this photo outside. It was a cold, rainy day. We're having so much fun!
I finished a wonderful book today. So many lessons to be learned by reading this story of a man's journey to find peace and happiness. Can't wait until the second book in this series is released next month!
This morning we rode Metro in to Washington DC to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoms. We walked around the entire tidal basin and took in the views. It was crazy crowded, but we managed to get a few photos without a million tourists in them. We also visited the Jefferson Memorial and the FDR Memorial. There is so much to see here. The National Marathon was also taking place in downtown DC this morning, which added to the congestion, but it was so much fun to see and hear the ooooohs and aaaaaahs of everyone who came to see this beautiful sight! It was a crisp, chilly day, and it's supposed to snow again tonight. I hope the freeze doesn't affect the blossoms which are supposed to be at peak next week. Can't wait to see them then!
Our quest to find Kurt's beloved Sweet Lebanon Bologna was successful today. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is, but he and his co-workers are huge fans.
After walking through Arlington Cemetery and watching the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, we took some photos at Arlington Memorial Amphitheater.
We had a picnic at The Iwo Jima Memorial,
and ended our day by visiting the grounds of the Washington DC Temple.
Today we took the Casper family to the Museum of Natural History, The Old Post Office, and The Museum of American History. Here we are, Kali, Tami and Sande, resting our feet at the "America On The Move" exhibit at the Museum of American History. We had so much fun!
Mark, Sande and Kali arrived this afternoon. We are so happy to have our first Virginia visitors! Sande took this picture of the rest of us at 90 Degrees Restaurant. Can't wait to spend a few days exploring DC together!
I attempted corned beef and cabbage for the second time in my life. It was okay I guess. It sure tastes better when someone else makes it. Someone like Tammy Johnson ;-)
I honestly thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I first tasted this. Kurt loves it too. It's actually the best of both of our worlds - My love of dark chocolate, and Kurt's love of salt and nuts combined in one delectable package! I'm actually glad they're kind of hard to find!
Our Saturday adventure took us to Great Falls National Park today. With all of the recent rain, the Potomac was at flood stage. You couldn't really even see the falls because the river was so full. It was beautiful though. Can't wait to go back when the river isn't raging.
Oh, how I love a clean car! Tonight Kurt washed my car for me. He is SO sweet! I'm sure not used to all the salt they use on the roads here. I've missed my shiny car!
It's pretty sad when I think $3.52 is a good price for gas, but they say it'll reach $4.00 per gallon this summer. I'm finding that I really plan my trips in the car these days. Maybe I should get myself a scooter!
