GratiTuesday - Fix it Man

Anyone who knows Kurt might be surprised to learn that, when we moved to Virginia, he didn't bring any tools with him.  Luckily I thought to bring along my "girly" tool box.  It's come in handy for doing minor repairs around our apartment and for hanging pictures, etc.  Needless to say, whenever someone in the ward has a "fix-it" issue, Kurt JUMPS at the chance to help out.  As long as they have tools, he's ON IT!!!  I'm grateful that he is always so willing to help.  This week was no exception.  A friend had a leaky toilet and he was there to help.  Little did we know, when we managed apartments early in our marriage, that he would learn how to fix anything and everything.  I don't recall EVER having to hire a repairman for ANYTHING!  I love my fix-it man!

Sweet 100's

Today Kurt emailed me photos of the tomatoes and peppers we planted on April 22nd. I couldn't believe how big the plants have gotten while I've been here in California. He ate some of the Sweet 100's tonight and said they were "DELICIOUS!" I can't wait to go home and make some BLT's!!!

Square Foot Gardening - sort of

I miss our California garden and love the square foot gardening method. This is the best we can do living in an apartment. Tonight we planted some tomatoes and peppers. Hopefully we'll have success with our "round foot" garden!

One More Year

Today we renewed our apartment lease for another year. We originally said we'd stay for 2 years, so I guess our time here is almost halfway over. I have mixed feelings.

Sunday Walk

Kurt is in Texas this week. Another site visit. I hope things slow down for him eventually.
After church, I went for a walk along the creek by our apartment. It looks a lot like the creek on our property in Placerville. Sixteen more days until I get to go home for a couple of months!

Kiss and Ride

I love this sign as you enter the Virginia Railway Express parking lot. I love that it doesn't say "Park and Ride." Maybe it's true that "Virginia is for Lovers!"

I LOVE Spring!

If you had asked me what my favorite season was a year ago, I wouldn't have hesitated to say Summer. Since moving to the east coast and seeing the beautiful trees in bloom, I have to say I love Spring. It my be my favorite season now.....at least until I get back to California ;-)
The tree in front of our apartment is losing it's blossoms. It looks like it's snowing pink snow. What a beautiful sight!

Tulip Trees

The tulip trees near our apartment are in bloom. I had to stop and take a picture during my walk this morning. I can't help but think of the tree in Ed and Mary Lee's front yard back in Placerville. It made me feel a little homesick for my California home.

Evening Stroll

Kurt and I took a walk tonight through a park near our apartment. It was a peaceful evening and it was nice to get out after being pent up in our apartment because of cold weather. This park is named Signal Hill because it was a Confederate observation post during the civil war during the initial stages of the First Battle of Manassas. This is where the first use of wig-wag signals during wartime occured. A memorial across the street claims this was the first telecommunication on a battlefield.

My Find of the Day!

Once a week I take a friend from church to her dialysis appointment and then pick her up 5 hours later. Most days I go home in between, but some days I go exploring. This is one of my favorite finds on my 5 hour adventures. One of the first stores I looked for when moving to Manassas was Target. I absolutely LOVE Target. I found a nice Target store about 5 miles from my apartment. I love walking around in that store. I can wander for hours. Sometimes I don't buy a thing, I just love looking at the books, clothes, shoes, home decor, jewelry, etc. etc. Anyway, while on my waiting adventure today I found ANOTHER Target store in Manassas! And this one is a SUPER Target!!!! I spent my entire waiting time there today! I found great deals and got some great exercise walking and walking and walking. I'll probably need to limit my visits to Super Target to once a month. This store is dangerous! ;-)

Tour De Manassas

Every time I drive past a certain house on Sudley Street in Manassas, VA, I am intrigued by the bicycle fence around the perimeter of the home. The homeowner has welded old bicycles together as a permanent curbside display - they are all painted white and redecorated with the change of seasons and major holidays. If I counted correctly, I believe there are 43 bikes!

Red umbrellas were the theme for the Christmas holiday. Luckily they were still there today so I could take some pictures.

I can't help but smile when I drive by and see this sight! It truly brightens my day.
I can't wait to see what they have up their sleeve this Spring!
